I'm mostly amazed that this tiny cardboard box from the A.L. Smith & Co. Drug Store in Murfreesboro, TN managed to survive more than 45 years after it was filled. I had no idea that prescriptions used to be done this way, I guess things have changed quite a bit the last half century or so!
Don't ask why this is so neat to me, because I can't really place my finger on it, but I kinda love it, in an odd way.
My great-aunt had a few small tins with similar prescription labels on them, from if I recall correctly the late 1940s. This was back when, likely as not, the pharmacist actually compounded the medication from a formulary, and compressed the tablets in a special mold to make the pills. Much has changed. :)
ReplyDeleteMy best friend has a few old medicine bottles from the early 1900s. Most of them are still in very good condition.
